Pet Feeding Calculator

How much should my pet eat?

Get a daily starting amount for your dog or cat, see how long a bag will last, and know when to schedule your next AutoShip.

Your pet's starting amount

Enter your pet's weight and the calories per cup from the bag to see results.

This is an estimate for a healthy pet, based on standard veterinary calorie formulas. Every pet is different. Compare it with the feeding chart on your bag, adjust to keep your pet at a healthy weight, and ask your vet about puppies, kittens, seniors, and pets with health conditions or weight goals. Treats count too: keep them under about 10% of daily calories.

Feeding questions

Where do I find calories per cup?

Every bag of complete dog or cat food lists "Calorie Content," usually near the guaranteed analysis. It shows kcal/kg and kcal/cup. Many product pages on PetBowlz list it too.

Should I feed by my pet's current weight or ideal weight?

If your pet is at a healthy weight, use the current weight. If your pet needs to lose weight, choose "Weight loss" and ask your vet for an ideal target weight.

Why doesn't this match the chart on the bag?

Bag charts cover a range for many pets. This calculator uses your pet's weight and activity for a more personal starting point. If they differ a lot, start in between and adjust over two to three weeks.

How do I switch to a new food?

Over 7 to 10 days, mix increasing amounts of the new food with decreasing amounts of the old one.
