Sensitive stomach or a picky eater? Choose 10 days, or stay on any step for an extra day or two. If you see vomiting, diarrhea that lasts more than a day, or your pet stops eating, go back a step and call your vet.

Switching questions

Do I need to switch slowly within the same brand?

Often not. Many brands make their recipes to be rotated. Fromm says no transition is needed between Fromm recipes, and Zignature and Open Farm design their recipes so it's easy to rotate once your pet is eating their food. Check the brand's guidance on the bag or ask us. A few days of mixing is still a good idea if your pet has a sensitive stomach, or if you're changing to a very different recipe, such as a new protein or a limited-ingredient formula.

What if my pet picks out the old food?

Mix the two foods well, and add a spoon of warm water to blend the smell. Give it a couple of days before moving to the next step.

Can I switch cold turkey?

When moving to a new brand, only if your vet tells you to, for example for a medical diet. Otherwise a sudden change often causes loose stools or gas.

What if my pet won't eat the new food at all?

Contact us. We'll help you find a recipe your pet will eat.

Want check-ins along the way?

We'll email you the plan today, a quick halfway check-in, and a note when you're fully switched. Just those three emails.
